Things To See & Do During Your Stay In Brittany.

There are many events on, in or around Le Gorvello throughout the year. If you are keen to explore a wider area, we can make suggestions for this also. A full list of places to visit, reviews, brochures, and a restaurant guide is available in your gite.

Usually held in mid June, a day long feast of eating, drinking, Breton dancing, singing, and games. It kicks off around midday with a traditional Breton wedding or “Noce” enacted by the village school, followed by lunch and festivities. Not to be missed!

Le Gorvello also hosts a “pardon” during the last weekend of August, and an annual arts festival, when the roads are closed and any number of painters, sculpters, potters and musicians can be found performing their art in the streets of the village.

If you would like to sample a traditional Breton fete, there are many "Fest Noz" in the surrounding villages throughout the summer. The food & cider is plentiful and excellent value, if a little rustic! There is likely to be dancing, music and sometimes other entertainment. There are also "themed" fetes all over the region - onions, oysters, garlic, apples & many more all have their own celebration.

From your gite you can see the public tennis court, which is rarely used by others (we provide rackets & tennis balls for your use). There are two horseriding centres nearby, and any number of marked ramblers paths and routes, also you will find 2 boules courts in the village. There are some superb local golf courses (ask about our golf packages). In Sene (10 minutes drive) there is an acclaimed bird sanctuary with guided tours and observation points. For anyone keen to get out on the water the Golfe du Morbihan is perfect, there are sailing courses for beginners and experts all along the coast, fishing, windsurfing, kite boarding etc - and if Peter ever gets our boat fixed up we may one day offer trips here from the gite!

Within 20 minutes of the house you will find some of the best beaches of South Morbihan.

The area around Damgan, Betahon, and the Presq’uil de rhuys is particularly attractive. Travel for 20 minutes (west) and you will be in Carnac, Erdevan or go south-east to the famous La Baule, and Le Croisic. Much of the coastline offers great swimming and safe beaches, and there are a myriad of different activities on offer depending on the location. You will find much more information in your gite, along with weather forecasts and tide timetables for the week (the tides in Brittany have one of the largest variants in the world)

Southern Brittany has a wealth of Neolithic remains. The town of Carnac (around 20 minutes drive from here) is today a popular seaside resort. Around 5000 BC it was, along with the surrounding area, a major focal centre of Celtic power and influence. There are as many mysteries surrounding the Carnac stones as there are at Stonehenge. Certainly it was a centre for religious celebration, tribal gatherings and astronomical observations. Find out more at the “Musee Prehistoire” in Carnac, (guide available in English), before visiting the 30 or more sites around the area - most of which are free.
